Chasing the Sunset: Miraflores District, Lima, Peru

Follow me on this photo story as I chase the sunset in the Miraflores District of Lima, Peru.

Today I’m venturing back to this time only a little over a year ago today. As my soul was seeking a little light and brightness, I found myself thinking back to my time in Peru right around this time last year. Β One of my favorite things in the world is watching the sunrise or sunset and I strongly believe this is one of the Earth’s most wonderful blessings.

So I invite you to take a moment or two to follow me as I chased the sunset and watched the beautiful colors of the sky change as the sun went down over the Pacific Ocean in the Miraflores District in Lima, Peru.

The beginning of the sunset. The blue sky turns bright with creams and butter yellows. Prior to this I was ready to head back to my hotel for a little rest. Needless to say, I stayed out and about a bit longer awaiting a spectacular sunset. My journey brought me towards that restaurant in the image above, down to the Ocean, then back up.

Paraglider’s getting ready to go as the sunset begins. I love the way this evening light illuminates the ‘kites’ (I apologize if thats not the correct terminology). But seriously, the golden hour phenomenon is quite real.

Moment later those creams and butter yellow turn to the warmest gold I have ever seen. The scenery or in the case of the photo above, the people in the distance become silhouettes.

I continued along as quickly as I could to this lovely pathway that leads you straight down to the water. What is better than dipping your toes in the Ocean during a sunset. Not knowing how much longer I had with this gorgeous light or how the sunset was going to continue to progress I found myself moving faster and faster towards the water.

Finally by the Pacific Ocean. The warm golds invited peaches and pinks to join the show If you squint your eyes, you may notice shades of purples such as mauves and violets are also welcome. I am fascinate with the way things that were clear all morphe together into one common silhouette. Something that was familiar during the day becomes new as night falls. I also find myself losing how the reflection of sky into the water is so similar yet so different. The way the waves in the water break the colors the same way light clouds in the sky diffuse the light.

Before it got dark out, I made my way back up to the main pathway that leads one back from the Love Monument towards the Larcomar. I felt as though every ten steps I found myself looking back in disbelief due to how the sunset continued to get more and more beautiful even in the last few minutes of light for the day. Finally we get dark blue contrasted with bright bars of orange and and strong pink that meets the dark color of the Ocean. I’m a sucker for the silhouette of a Palm Tree back dropped by the sunset.

My final image of this series for you. I finally made my way back to the start and ready to grab a bite for dinner. Even looking back at these images now, my heart fills with so much gratitude and peace as I reimagine the feeling of watching the sky flood so brightly with these colors. Moment later all went to black but this is a moment and feeling I will cease to forget.

I hope you enjoyed this quick little series and whether it be morning, afternoon, or evening, I wish this brought a moment of peace to what is likely a chaotic day.
